27th ANNIVERSARY
| On July 20, 2008 the Bay Area Crisis Nursery (BACN) celebrates 27 years of caring for children at risk of abuse or neglect. BACN gives a little heart, a little help and a lot of hope to parents who care but temporarily can't cope. Since 1981, children have been admitted over 18,000 times! After 27 years, BACN still does not charge parents a fee, nor do we accept government funding. HELP US CELEBRATE BY BECOMING A VOLUNTEER OR A DONOR. Join over 100 volunteers playing with children, reading to them, rocking babies. Email us at volunteer@bacn.info Join our wonderful monthly HUG donors - the amount you donate is up to you! Much of our support comes from people who donate between $25-$150 each month. Go to the donate page or email for more info to sandyhathaway@bacn.info | ||

CRAB FEED A HUGE SUCCESS!
| Over 250 people spent a "Tropical Night" at the 8th Annual Bay Area Crisis Nursery Crab Feed on 1/19/08. The crab as always was delicious and plentiful! There was much competition in the table decorating area among Mount Diablo Harley Owners Group, Hearts of Thunder Women's Motorcycle Club and UPS! We really couldn't say whose table was the coolest - all three were very tropical! Guests at the crab feed can decorate their tables and themselves to reflect our theme - it's a bunch of fun! The event netted $10,000 from ticket sales, drinks, the raffle and silent auction! Thanks to all who donated, attended, volunteered. Check back soon for the list of all those folks! | ||

300 at the Crab Feed
Our own "300" had an ocean of fun at this year's Crab Feed. Guests ate all the succulent crab, pasta, salad and garlic bread they could handle! Some lucky guests upgraded their desserts as winners of the Dessert Auction. Service with a smile was provided by National Charity League moms and daughters from the Acalanes Chapter. The Vista Oaks Chapter provided some of the most creative cakes including a baby buggy and an elephant with pink ganache! Silent auction and raffle were both great successes thanks to our generous donors and the basketmaking talents of Patricia Behmlander. As always, our Board President, Joyce Wong created a stellar event! A SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL OUR DONORS AND SUPPORTERS |

FALL GALA A GREAT SUCCESS
The Fall Gala Champagne, Chocolate, Dessert Tasting in November at Blake's at Boundary Oak was a big success, netting approximately $30,000. About 200 people sampled truffles from Blake's and Paulette's, sipped champagnes and bid on trips, dinners, sports memorabilia and tickets, and awesome gift baskets. Special items included a five course dinner at Gary Danko, a day on the Dreyer's Rocky Road bus and a ride along with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department. Tori Campbell of KTVU-2 hosted the Nursery's 25 Years of Miracles featuring a presentation about the new building that resulted from the Miracle Makeover. Dahlstrom House Admits Its First Children! Story Date: 7/26/03
On July 16th the first child arrived at our new group home, the Dahlstrom House. On the 17th three more children came. This home is for six through eleven year olds. It is a six-bed facility. Over the years staff have been concerned when a family arrives at BACN with several little ones and one or two children over the age of five. It has been difficult to see the older children return to the car, the unsafe home environment or the halls of a hospital to ride out the crisis with the parents. Due to licensing requirements they could not be admitted to BACN. The Dahlstrom House will enable us to help families with older children. Since children of this age know more about what is happening in their family the Dahlstrom house is set up so that children have a choice of time alone or with others, they have a choice of projects and activities appropriate for their age, they can help with simple tasks and they always have adults available to talk with or hang out with. As with the Nursery, it is not a place for children with problems but for children whose parents are in stressful or crisis situations. Thanks again to your generosity the Dahlstrom house is a really nice environment for children. The first children admitted commented to a staff member, “This place is like a real home! It’s nice!”![]() |
