NOT ON PEPSI REFRESH
If you are looking for us on refresheverything.com and can't find us, there is a reason. Despite having several people trying to log in at the appointed time to register us, no one was successful. Everyone got the message that there were already 1000 submissions!

Everyone logs on at the same time - midnight of the appointed day, so we were loggin on at 9 PM since Pepsi is operating on EST. Thousands of folks log on - so basically the computer jams up and before 12:05 am there are already the 1000 submissions. We thought by having six people log on simultaneously we would succeed; maybe we need 60! Email events@bacn.info if you would like to help for next month!

Rainbow Girls of California Donate $70,000+ to BACN
Each year, the Grand Worthy Advisor (President) of California Rainbow chooses a deserving charity within the state as a State Service Project for which to raise funds. This year's Grand Worthy Advisor was Samantha Paige Forcum of Concord. Through her volunteer work with her local assembly in Concord, Forcum had become familiar with BACN and chose them as California Rainbow's 2009-2010 State Service Project.

“I chose the Bay Area Crisis Nursery as our State Service Project because in this economy, in this world, an organization like this is so vital,” said Forcum, “We can all understand the need to ask for help, especially with our fellow Americans losing jobs and homes. Every child should have the opportunity for a safe, healthy and happy childhood. It's as simple as that.”

Over the past year, Rainbow Girls throughout California worked diligently with their local assemblies to raise funds for and donate their time to BACN. Each assembly planned their own fundraisers, with some assemblies raising upwards of $2,000.

The International Order of Rainbow for Girls is a worldwide sorority for girls ages 11-21 teaching sisterhood through community service. Rainbow Girls learn leadership, public speaking, organizational, and planning skills throughout their community projects and meetings. There are over 900 Rainbow Girls in California and thousands more all over the world. For more information, visit www.gorainbow.org or www.caiorg.org.

In Memoriam ~ Wayne Schneider, Viola Herman
Wayne Schneider, one of our longtime volunteers, passed away June 1, 2009. Wayne was a childcare volunteer for over 9 years, attended community fairs as part of our Outreach Committee and was the man in the volunteer picture we used on all our display boards. He will be truly missed.

Crab Feed goers will not get to bid on Ms. Viola's incredible lemon meringue pies next January. Viola Herman passed away in March 2009 at the age of 93. We will always remember those delicious pies and this wonderful way Viola found to keep helping in her 90's.

Macy's Was Fun!!
Last Saturday was Community Shopping Day at Macy's. BACN volunteers joined volunteers from 15 other non-profits at Macy's Union Square in San Francisco. We handed out info about the shopping day fundraiser. Some of the arts agencies had bands playing and children's art exhibits. Everyone had fun greeting folks at the entrances. Macy's employees had sold over 1000 tickets before Saturday and seemed like they were selling a lot on Saturday. The money from Macy's store sale of tickets is divided up among the non-profits.. SO A BIG THANKS to ticket buyers, shoppers, volunteers and Macy's employees - especially Chida, Katie and Nisha!!

EASTER BUNNY UPDATE
The Easter Bunny delivered 224 Easter Baskets to Nursery children this year! It was absolutely fantastic!

Of course, the Bunny had some great helpers. Our thanks go out to:
    Macy's Walnut Creek Store
    Wells Fargo Bank-Auto Finance
    Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church
    Girl Scout Troop #31940
    National Charity League-Rolling Hills

    Margarita Boscacci and Theresa Andrews

The Easter Bunny also recognized that we would need backpacks for children this year since Mervyns has closed. So special thanks to St. John Vianney Church in Walnut Creek - Middle School Youth Group and Small Christian Communities for making and delivering over 20 filled backpacks and school supplies!

If we have omitted anyone, we apologize - please let us know! 4/16/09

DATABASE INTEGRATION BEGINS
Today marks the start of the integration of BACN's two donor databases that don't talk to each other. Have you ever wondered why you get two invitations, newsletters, etc.? This lack of computer communication is sometimes the problem.

Soon, we will have one system! It will help us access information more easily, track and process many types of transactions easily, provide reports that are more helpful and easier to understand and eventually eliminate duplication.

The process should be completed by the end of March! We are looking forward to one system!
